FORGED ITEMS

ORNAMENTAL J HOOKS

Ornamental J Hooks are made out of 1/4 inch mild steel and vary in length from 4 inches to 8 inches.
​They all have a spike point at 90 degrees to the hook that can be driven into a post to hold a given object.
If left unfinished, they will develop a nice rusty appearance and look ancient.
If "rusty" is not the look you are after, then I can finish the hooks in a coating of oil and beeswax that will keep them looking a nice dark steel colour for a long time.

VIKING STYLE KNIVES

Following a design that has been handed down over many years from blacksmith to blacksmith, this simple utility knife has stood the test of time. Supposedly carried as an all-purpose tool by Norsemen some 1000 years ago, this unembellished blade provided both an effective cutting edge and as well as a fail-safe finger guard, most uncommon for small knives of that time.

The Viking Knives here today were developed for garden use but have been used in the office, the kitchen or the dining room.  
With the simple guard protecting your fingers, no matter how hard you jam one of these knives into the ground, your hand is safe.

For that one-of-a-kind gift for someone special or simply to own a unique little piece of history, take home one of these wonderfully simple examples of the art of the blacksmith.

GARDEN TOOLS

Here are examples of re-purposing old rusty tools and found items such as railroad spikes into useful garden tools.

An old pair of tin snips makes a wonderful garden hoe and a railroad spike can make a great tool for digging weeds.

MISCELLANEOUS ITEMS

Here I show a basic knife and scabbard made from a railroad spike.

I have been commissioned to make unique metal based to support other artists' work such as this glass fusion piece by Greg Locke.

This hand-forged base was quite difficult, requiring me to make two parallel wave patterns to support the glass pieces.
